This painting illustrates four butterflies of the family group Pieridae (Whites and Sulphurs). Each Species is shown with the host plant they are associated with. Their caterpillars are hidden among the plants. From top left to bottom right:
Large Marble - Euchloe ausonides with Hairy Rockcress - Arabis eschscholtziana
Pine White - Neophasia menapia with Ponderosa Pine - Pinus ponderosa
Pink-edged Sulphur - Colias interior with Velvet-leaved Blueberry - Vaccinium myrtilloides
Cabbage White - Pieris rapae with Field Mustard - Brassica rapa
Original paintings may have slight marks on the paper outside of the painted image. I do my best to keep them clean while working and only select the pieces that are white clean. A minimal mark from an eraser is sometimes visible.
