This painting illustrates four butterflies of the family group Papilionidae (Parnassians and Swallowtails). Each Species is shown with the host plant they are associated with. Their caterpillars are hidden among the plants. From top left to bottom right:
Two-tailed Swallowtail - Papilio multicaudata with Choke Cherry - Prunus virginiana
Phoebus Apollo - Parnassius phoebus with Lance-leaved American Aster - Symphyotrichum lanceolatum
Canadian Tiger Swallowtail - Papilio canadensis with Trembling Aspen - Populus tremuloides
Pale Swallowtail - Papilio eurymedon with Saskatoon Berry - Amelanchier alnifolia
Original paintings may have slight marks on the paper outside of the painted image. I do my best to keep them clean while working and only select the pieces that are white clean. A minimal mark from an eraser is sometimes visible.
