Killdeer, Charadrius vociferus are plovers that are commonly found beyond the shoreline in open fields and grasslands. They are active and very vocal birds named for their kill-deer call. The spotted eggs and newly hatched chicks are camouflaged to match their environment. Killdeer are well known for their use of the broken wing trick, pretending to be injured to lure away predators from their vulnerable nest. They also use a more direct technique of puffing up and charging at larger mammals like Deer or Cows to deter them from walking over the nest.
Original paintings may have slight marks on the paper outside of the painted image. I do my best to keep them clean while working and only select the pieces that are white clean. A minimal mark from an eraser is sometimes visible.
